There's nothing like a converter that will convert an analog signal to a stereo optical digital so you can get a 5.1.
If your laptop has a Blu-ray, I think it is a kind of digital output, and that is what the use NED.
You must have a digital output for 5.1 surround sound. I did a quick search on the Dell website and all I got was that you could be on Alienware systems. If this is the case, then you are probably SOL. The best solution would be to see a USB or whatever, but I do not know if it exists.
